Configuring Standard Switches in vCenter 5.5

Today we will look at Configuring Standard Switches in vCenter 5.5.

Open the vSphere web-client and navigate to Host and Clusters:

Click host which you want to create Virtual Switch and navigate to Manage tab  and the Networking column and Select the Virtual Switches option:

Click on  Add host networking icon:

Firstly we will look VMkernel Network Adapter so select that and click next:

Select New Standard Switch:

And then select  Active Adapters, and click the green + to add a physical vmnic to the vSwitch:

As you see i set one adapter active and Standby adapter another one:

In the connection settings  portgroup name, and if required a VLAN ID value.You can select  required services .

Here you can use static ip address or take ip from DHCP automatically i will take this as default:

Click Finish to complete :

on the right side of screen you will see process of creating vSwitch:

As you see vSwitch1 created and there have 2 physical adapter which we added. So click add icon for create Physical Network Adapter:

Click on New Standard switch:

Select Active Adapters, and click the green + to add a physical vmnic to the vSwitch:

Click Finish to complete:

As you see vSwitch created and not any port group on it, So click green add icon to add port group on it:

Select Virtual Machine Portgroup for a Standard Switch and click Next:

Ensure that vSwitch2 is the existing standard vSwitch and click next:

Type a friendly network label for the portgroup name, as well as the VLAN ID:

Click Next and Finish to complete the configuration

As you see we created all three option. If you want to edit you can use edit(pencil) icon and X icon like as showed below:
