How to Create VMware Templates?

VMware vCenter Server allows you to create templates. You have 2 options to create template: Clone to Template and Convert to Template

To convert to VM to template you virtual machine should be turned off.

Lets look at how to creating VM template.

1.Creating a Template with Clone to Template Open vCenter and select the VM that you want to create a template with and right-click on it and  select Clone to Template:

Give a name for the template and Click “Next.”

Choose the cluster and click next:

Click host which you want to place template and click next:

Select datastore which you want and click next:

And finally click Finish to complete process:

2.Creating a Template with Convert to Template Open vCenter and select the VM that you want to create a template with and right-click on it and  select Convert to Template(Note that you VM must be turned off otherwise you can not use this option):

Once process will be completed you see your VM converted to template:

Convert template  to Virtual Machine you need to Right-click on template which you want to convert to VM and select “Convert to Virtual Machine…”:

Create a Virtual Machine from a Template  you need to Right-click on template which you want to convert to VM and select “Deploy Virtual Machine from this Template…”:
