How to point clients to a new Symantec Endpoint protection after decommissioning or replacing the primary one?

After decommissioning or replacing the primary Symantec Endpoint protection we need to use new  Symantec Endpoint protection antivirus software. For use new Symantec Endpoint protection we have more than one solutions:

  1. We can deploy  again new communications settings from Symantec Endpoint protection Manager .

2. We can export client install package and install on client computer.

3symaendport 3. Copy the Sylink.xml manually to the SEP client.

It is still possible to manually replace the sylink.xml file, however in order to do so Tamper Protection must first be disabled.

This can be done on the client by going to Change Settings > Click Configure Settings under Client Management > Tamper Protection (Tab) > Then uncheck the box that says Protect Symantec security software from being tampered with or shut down.

Once tamper protection is disabled

a. Stop the SMC service by going to Start > Run > type in > smc -stop.

b. Once the service is stopped copy the sylink.xml file from the new SEPM and on the client side put that sylink.xml file under

C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\12.1.671.4971.105\Data\Config

c. Replace the existing file and restart the SMC service with Start > Run > smc -start

it is recommended that you use the SylinkDrop, or import the sylink.xml directly into the SEP client GUI (Help > Troubleshooting > Management; under Communication Settings, click Import…).
